i.e. I needed a lot of retail therapy to help me get over my gloomy day.

Retail therapy is the only form of therapy that I have ever practiced, although, it feels great at once, to buy and treat yourself but listen up.. STOP RIGHT THERE.
Why do you wanna unnecessarily dig a hole in your pocket and fill your already overfilled wardrobe just to keep up with the fast fashion trends?
It was in the 80’s when the term was first coined by the Chicago Tribune. In 2001 the European Union conducted a study finding that 33% of shoppers surveyed had a “high level of addiction to rash or unnecessary consumption” and that it could even reasonably be claimed that retail therapy exists on a spectrum with ‘shopping addiction

The idea of retail therapy sounds great to me too, but the problem is that we often use it to distract ourselves from a void we need to fill with something instantly gratifying.
A Greenpeace survey showed that around 50% of shoppers report that the buzz wears off within a day, and it is often followed by a hangover of guilt and shame. People report feeling bad about their useless purchases, realizing that shopping does not lead to increased long-term happiness.
Overproduction and overconsumption are unsustainable for both us and the planet; the more we impulse buy, the more our wardrobes swell with future waste destined for landfill and fated to cause further harm.
Reevaluating why we shop: On the bright side, some people are questioning the purpose and consequences of their own consumption habits and reevaluating materialistic values.
Choose well if you still have the urge.
Today, we have an increasing variety of brands shifting their production and materials to a more sustainable, slow fashion model, ensuring we as consumers can access all the specifics of their production process.
